In the Balance

A gravity-defying installation of 168 water-filled borosilicate glass test tubes designed by the artist, this piece suspends water in upturned open vials through the delicate interplay of surface tension and atmospheric pressure. The audience experiences a unique view looking up into the surface of the water as it defies gravity in a delicate balance. The installation is part of Shimizu’s series of projects that explore the unique chemical properties of water which are crucial to the life of biological organisms and their relationship to the planet.
