Yoko Shimizu is a contemporary artist and biochemistry researcher based in Linz, Austria and Tokyo, Japan. Born in Kyoto and raised in the United States, she was inspired by the art scene in New York as a child. To pursue her passion in science, she studied Biology and Chemistry in Kobe University. Her career began as a creative director and consultant in an advertisement company. She then started her own creative innovation lab in Japan. Yoko has received numerous awards for biology-inspired installations that integrate art and science, and has held exhibitions in countries around the globe. She is also a media personality on international art and music programs in Japan, and has given talks and performances in global events such as TED, FITC, and Ars Electronica. Yoko is the founder and director of the Matsudo International Science Art Festival and a co-founder of Beyond Earth. She is currently an artist and researcher at the Ars Electronica Futurelab in Linz, Austria, managing creative innovation projects for corporations and government organizations worldwide.
科学と芸術を融合するテクノロジーやインスタレーションをグローバルに研究、制作、発表。リンツ（オーストリア）と東京を拠点に活動する。アメリカで育ちNY のアートに影響を受ける。大学では生物化学を専攻。制作会社においてクリエイティブ・ディレクター兼コンサルタントとしてキャリアをスタートし、後に自身のラボにおいてバイオテクノロジーなどの先端科学を用いたデザインを研究しながら、ギャラリー、ミュージアム、企業、行政と協業。国際放送局でのパーソナリティや、TED、FITC、アルスエレクトロニカなどのグローバルイベントにおけるトークやパフォーマンスなど、メディアを通じた活動の他、各種芸術賞を受賞。国際フェスティバル「科学と芸術の丘」ディレクター、イノベーション・アワードの審査員も務める。アメリカを拠点に宇宙アートを手がける Beyond Earthの共同設立者。現在、オーストリアのリンツ市におけるアルスエレクトロニカ・フユーチャーラボのアーティスト兼リサーチャーとして、グローバルな企業や行政機関のクリエイティブなイノベーション・プロジェクトのマネジメントを行う。
